Give Wine a Future was born of the realisation that there is an urgent need for Ireland’s wine industry to take action and lead by example on climate change. At Findlater Coffee, our drive for sustainability is at the front and centre of our roasting business with initiatives already in place and more to come.
It is now a given that sustainability is part of each and everything we do to move our sustainable agenda to higher and higher levels.
Here at Findlater Coffee, our drive for sustainability is front and centre of our roasting business.
Since 2018, we have had sustainability at the top of each and every agenda.
So far, we have put the following initiatives in place.
- All our coffee packaging is now fully recyclable.
- All our single use coffee cups and lids are fully recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable.
- All our sugar stirrers now are made of fully sustainable bamboo.
- We have introduced fully reusable coffee drums as part of the circular economy model.
- Implemented a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement where are now sourcing our energy from a Windfarm in Donegal
- Adopted a rule of reuse cups only within the company.
- Implemented designated recycling points within our building and externally.
- We compost all our chaff byproduct from the coffee roasting process.
Sustainable Packaging & Takeaway Cups
We know our planet needs us. That’s why we are always striving to be better than we were yesterday.
We offer our customers takeaway cups that are Aqueous cups, which are manufactured using an aqueous water-based coating. This breaks down harmlessly without any specialist treatment required. Our Warbler & Wren Coffee drums hold 6kg of coffee beans eliminating the need for single use packs and outer case packaging. The drum is made from 100% recyclable materials and can be reused up to 15 times.
We’re proud of each step in our journey and always aim to be more sustainable where possible.
What is next in the plan
- Move to direct linked coffee farms at Origin to ensure a higher value is attained by the farmer.
- Invest in higher tech coffee roasting equipment to reduce our gas usage.
- Reduce our food waste by 50%
- Reduce our water use by 15%
- Introduce and incentivise reuse coffee cups to all our customers.
